JAY Z & BEYONCE: Going on plant foods only for 22 days

During a time of year when most of us overdose on artery-clogging delights, Beyoncé and Jay Z have decided to embrace a plant-based diet. Oh, and it was Jay Z's idea.

Branding it as a "spiritual and physical cleanse," he notes that he will post progress updates along the way and solicits "professional vegans" to help him out with restaurant recommendations — probably because he needs places to take his better half since BeyoncĂ© is apparently joining him in this mission. Now that's love.

"Psychologists have said it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. On the 22nd day, you’ve found the way," Jay Z explained on his site. And while he notes that he isn't sure what happens after they've reached the Christmas finish line, something tells us they'll be happy they made it.

I'M SORRY!

Please accept my apologies Everyone. I have been away for more than 3 weeks now. I am so sorry i did not give prior notice. Actually i did not think i was going to be away for that long. I went to Abuja, the federal capital for a 2 days program. I ended up being there for so long and i did not have any of my working tools with me. I really am sorry. It will not happen again.

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKED LATELY?

I was in Reddington hospital, Victoria Island earlier today to do my periodic health and had a very good reading for my blood pressureIt was 116/67mmHg. My blood pressure reading was always in the range of 117-120/70-80mmHg. These readings are quite important for me because not only do I help people to lower their blood pressure, it shows I live what I teach.

The chart below will show you the various readings and their implications

What I have done to keep my blood pressure within the normal range (and you can achieve it too) is this:

1. I don’t eat meat and animal products of any kind except stock-fish, dried fish or smoked       fish.
Animal products including eggs and dairy are a source of saturated fat (cholesterol).           Saturated fat goes into your arteries and cause high blood pressure.

2. I drink 3 litres of water daily.  1 litre in the morning, 1 litre in the afternoon and 1 litre in         the evening.

3. I eat a lot of vegetables: Garden eggs, vegetable soup(afang, edikanikong)

4. I don't eat salt foods. My wife hardly use white salt to prepare our meals. We boil our rice,   yam, potatoes and fry plantain without salt.

5. I take garlic and ginger juice in zobo (home made) drink daily

6. I take my daily skipping exercise seriously.
     - I skip for 200 times daily and it takes me just 10mins to do so.

*Take your blood pressure reading as regularly as you can. I think it’s FREE self .

You can eliminate high blood pressure without  drugs!

WATER: Nature’s free gift that may save your life

Water is absolutely essential for survival. It plays a part in almost every bodily function- from breathing to thinking. You can go many weeks without food but only a few days without water.

Let me show you how our body uses water.

1. Water is required to transport nutrients throughout the body via the bloodstream.
2. It dilutes toxins that our cells produce during metabolism and carries them away.
3. It is part of every cell- 70% of our body is composed of water.
4. It dissolves mineral build up in the body, helping to eliminate arthritis and heart disease
5. It helps keep the colon clean. Our large intestine is like a sewer system; keeping the body hydrated helps to keep it clean and gets waste moving through it.

In our daily metabolic functions, our bodies lose between 4-6 pints of water. We lose water when we breathe, when we urinate and when we sweat so it is imperative that all this water be replaced. Many people try to replace the water they lose by drinking soft drinks, tea or coffee. These don’t help the body at all and they actually add toxins to the bloodstream. Consuming these liquids will require even more water in order to get the toxins they contain out of your bloodstream.

I take 3 litres of water daily. 1 litre in the morning,  1 litre in the afternoon and 1 litre in the evening. You should do the same. It will help your health and overall well being.

FATHER U-TURN DIES AT 36 OF LIVER RELATED ISSUES

Femi Sylvester mayomi aka Father U-Turn is dead at the age of 36 years. Father U-Turn was once the rave of the moment as far as galala, a brand of ghetto music was concerned. He came out with a hit “Yetunde” which used to be the darling of music lovers(including me) about a decade ago.

He died in a hospital around Okokomaiko in Lagos today after suffering a liver related illness. A family source confirmed he had been in and out of hospital for many weeks. He had been on admission at the last hospital for 10 days before he passed on.

One thing you should know about the liver is that it takes every particle of food we eat and everything we drink into its marvelous laboratory and breaks it down into a usable form. The blood then takes this specially prepared food into the various parts of the body to repair, replenish and rebuild cells and tissues.

Alcohol, beer, wine, and liquor slowly destroys this marvelous organ which ultimately results in serious physical problems and untimely deaths.

HAPPY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: Photos

My wife decided to share some of our pictures today being our wedding anniversary. Enjoy and comment.

GIVE YOUR MARRIAGE A LIFT WITH THIS (Don't be shy): Part III

It's my wedding anniversary today and I have been showing you some of the sexual positions my wife and i have played with which has made our marriage thick. It will help your marriage too when you try them. Once again we say thank you to Yorio Jurick of Women Health Magazine who has helped us to get an illustration of the changes in sexual positions that my wife and I use regularly. Here is the third sexual position that will give your marriage a lift.

The Standard: Spooning

1.Tingly Twister

As you're spooning, lift your top leg over his body and turn your head toward him so you're making eye contact, says Ava Cadell, Ph.D., author of The Sexy Little Book of Sex Games. Locking eyes while your bodies are pressed together makes the spoon even more physically and emotionally intimate.

2.The Ladle

Try this position on a chilly spring night: As you're spooning, draw your knees up to your chest so you're in the fetal position on your side. Have your guy spoon you as tightly as possible, pressing his chest and legs into yours for ultimate physical closeness, so sex feels more intense for both of you, says Kerner.

3.Open Pose

From the spooning position, roll so you're facedown with your knees tucked under your chest and your arms are stretched out in front or at your sides. Then have your partner mount you in the same position. The angle opens you up down below, giving him a direct line to your G-spot.

GIVE YOUR MARRIAGE A LIFT WITH THIS (Don't be shy) : Part II

Thanks to Yorio Jurick of Women Health Magazine who has helped us to get an illustration of the changes in sexual positions that my wife and I use regularly. Here is the third sexual position that will give your marriage a lift. Try them out and take note of the positive changes you begin to experience. Send me a mail as things improve. *wink*

The Standard:  Doggie Style

1. Love Seat

With your partner seated on a chair or against the headboard, kneel down onto him so that your back is touching his chest, says Kerner. Alternate between moving up and down and rocking forward and back to maximize the sensations for both of you.

2. Thigh Master

Have your guy lie on his back and bend his knees to his chest. Lower yourself onto him, using the back of his thighs as a seat and his feet (pressed against your shoulders) as a backrest Extend your arms back so he can hold your wrists for balance. It sounds Cirque du Soleil but he'll go extra deep, while your cervix is stimulated.

3. Downward Dog

Take basic doggie out of bed: Bend forward and place your hands on a shower wall sturdy mirror, or piece of furniture for support as he enters you from behind. The standing position frees up his hands, so he can reach around and give you manual pleasure in multiple spots.

GIVE YOUR MARRIAGE A LIFT WITH THIS (Don't be shy)

The Standard :Girl On Top

1. Reverse Cowgirl

Spin yourself around so you are in the same position as girl on top, except facing his feet, says Ian Kerner, Ph.D., author of Sex Recharge. This variation allows for some serious G-spot stimulation and gives you the freedom to let your fingers wander to your hot spot...or his.

2. The Catcher

Instead of kneeling on top of him, straddle him in a squat position with your feet flat on the bed or floor, says Love. He'll enjoy the view, and you'll be in better control to hit your G-spot.

3. Easy Glider

Lie on top of your partner so your bodies are pressed together and your legs are fully extended, says Sonia Borg Ph.D., author of Marathon Sex. Then glide back and forth slowly. For slippery fun, rub massage oil over his chest and yours during foreplay.

ALOMO,OSOMO: How safe?

The craze for Alomo and Osomo these days in Nigeria is alarming. I have tried Alomo too (before I started my healthy living campaign) not really for what they say it is. Lol. The truth is I discovered that it increased my libido. I was making love to my wife twice a day. Whenever I took it, I had an urge for sex….well in that case it is what people says it is….an aphrodisiac.

An aphrodisiac is a  substance that increases sexual desire. - Wikipedia

I have since stopped taking Alomo bitters. Alomo bitters have about 42% alcohol (like Vodka) in each bottle. The problem I have with Alomo and which you should be concerned about is the alcoholic content in each bottle.

A consultant cardiologist at LUTH, Dr. Goke Ale, however, labeled alcohol as “cardio toxic.” He described the combination of alcohol and sex as ‘suicidal’. Alcohol alone can depress the function of the heart or cause abnormal rhythm of the heart because it has effects on the brain, heart, liver and blood vessels,.

According to the Kasapreko Company, makers of Alomo bitters, it is a herbal alcoholic product made from carefully chosen tropical plant extracts and it is very well known for its proven medicinal values. It has its roots in the traditional herbal industry that is meticulously researched by the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine a World Health Organization affiliate, based at Mampong Akuapem in the Eastern region of Ghana.
The Kasapreko company has not exactly indicated how much of the bitters that could be taken for its purported health effects.

A pharmacist on rxpertcare.com says “due to its intoxicating effect, many tend to abuse it, taking much more than needed. Unfortunately, we see people drink as much as two or three bottles of 200 ml at a sitting claiming it makes them ‘feel alright’. This is an outright abuse. If you take so much over a long period of time, you may get the positive health results on the short term but be sure that it will be accompanied, by the unpleasant health effects of alcohol as time goes on.

The long term health effects of taking more than the required amount irrespective of it’s alleviating ‘bitters’ effect is basically the same as taking excess of vodka, whisky or rum.
Some of these possible adverse effects include anemia, increased risk of cancer and stroke, liver cirrhosis and reduced fertility. In addition, addiction could occur and that’s just a next door neighbor to various forms of mental illnesses.”

In his contribution, Consultant Family Physician, Nigerian Air Force Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, Dr. Gbolahan Abideen, also said that there was a limit to the role that aphrodisiacs (Alomo) can play in correcting sexual disorders. For instance, Abideen said that sufferers would find aphrodisiacs(Alomo) useless in correcting premature ejaculation, which some studies have claimed to be affecting as many as one in three men.“Aphrodisiacs only work to sustain erection and not delay ejaculation in an individual with premature ejaculation. “The other bit is the unpredictable effect of the aphrodisiac (Alomo) on the heart and sometimes the kidney and liver.

Over to YOU!

YOUR NATURAL AND BEST BET FOR SEASONING: "Iru (yoruba), dawadawa(hausa)"

Most Nigerians have found out that their visits to the doctors, hospitals and even churches (due to one illness or the order) are on the increase. Degenerative diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension, Kidney and liver are taking its toll on our wonderful people. The questions many of our wonderful people (who or their relations have one health issue or the order) have asked me are “where are these diseases coming from? Our forefathers never had these diseases in their time?”

What I often tell them is that these diseases are rampant now because of what we are eating. A lot of foods that we thought were harmless have overtime sent some of our good people to early deaths. Due to my involvement in health, nutrition and lifestyle, I am very particular about what my family and I eat. I now that natural plant foods consumption will greatly improve anyone’s health. We need to avoid processed foods as much as possible. Processed foods such as seasoning cubes; magi, knorr etc. Most seasoning cubes, if not all in Nigeria, will have Monosodium Glutamate(MSG) and since it is a flavor enhancer and seasoning cubes are designed for just that purpose.

God has provided a natural seasoning plant variety for us and this is what my family uses. The African locust beans which is called Iru (Yoruba),dawadawa(Hausa). When you use Iru or dawadawa in your foods, you are getting a rich blend of minerals which the regular seasoning cubes will not provide for you.

Blessing Ekum of Nigerian Tribune says

When it comes to minerals, the African locust beans are loaded with a wide variety. It is a good source of potassium and phosphorus. A 2008 study on the “Chemical composition and anti-nutrients of some lesser known Nigeria fruits” published in the African Journal of Biotechnology reported a high calcium content of 11650mg/kg for the fruit pulp. The recommended dietary allowance for calcium is 800mg/day, which means that about 68g dry weight of the pulp fruit would provide the recommended daily allowance for calcium.
The findings from the study also showed that the pulp is rich in magnesium, a mineral that plays a major role in relaxing muscles along the airways to the lungs, thus allowing asthma patients to breathe easily. The study adds that deficiency of magnesium in man is responsible for severe diarrhoea, migraines, hypertension, cardiomyopathy, arteriosclerosis and stroke.

It is equally rich in iron which is an important element in the diet of pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants, convulsing patients and the elderly to prevent anaemia and other related diseases

Other studies have reported high potassium, sodium and manganese content in the pulp. Manganese supports the immune system, regulates blood sugar levels and is involved in the production of energy and cell reproduction. It works with Vitamin K to support blood clotting. Working with some vitamins, manganese helps to control the effects of stress. Birth defects can possibly result when an expecting mother does not get enough of this important element.

MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE (MSG): Maggi, Knorr, Royco infact it is in all the seasoning cubes in Nigeria

I have been very particular about the type of seasoning my wife uses and this led me to a study on Monosodium Glutomate (you remember Vedan and Ajinomoto?) and its effect on the body. It was all in the news some years ago in Nigeria that we needed to avoid Vedan and Ajinomoto because the seasoning is made with Monosodium Glutomate (MSG). White maggi!

What I discovered lately is that MSG is part of the ingredient used to make all the seasoning cubes in the market in Nigeria from Maggi, Knorr, Royco etc. Even the Noodles makers in Nigeria use it in their seasoning. I even checked some products made “by Supreme Spice” and discovered MSG as one of their ingredients.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer added to thousands of foods you and your family regularly eat. It's also one of the worst food additives on the market.  The more you use MSG flavor enhancer in your food, the more you are likely to experience its side effects.MSG is an excitotoxin, which means it overexcites your cells to the point of damage or death, causing brain damage to varying degrees, and potentially even triggering or worsening learning disabilities. Some of the Monosodium Glutamate side effects on body include:

Rashes, itching, burning, numbness;
Migraines, headaches;
Asthma;
Irritable bowel syndrome symptoms;
Chest tightness, heart palpitations, heart arrhythmia, anxiety;
Irritability, restlessness, sleep disturbance; and

Children are more vulnerable to MSG dangers than adults. In fact, MSG and other flavor enhancers are not permitted in foods produced specifically for infants and young children who are 12 months old or less.

OSES IS TALKING says let us return to our roots. Make a decision to avoid MSG in your diet as much as possible. Prepare food at home, using fresh, locally grown ingredients like “Iru or dawadawa”.(African locust beans).

14TH NOV. WORLD DIABETES DAY: What are you doing about it?

I have written about diabetes earlier on this blog but i wish to use this opportunity to emphasis that diabetes is curable. You don't have to live with it. The world diabetes federation agrees with me in this their article that a change in  nutritional lifestyle is one of the key to preventing and healing diabetes.

PREVENTION

At present, type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented. The environmental triggers that are thought to generate the process that results in the destruction of the body’s insulin- producing cells are still under investigation.

There is a lot of evidence that lifestyle changes (achieving a healthy body weight and moderate physical activity) can help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.
Obesity, particularly abdominal obesity, is linked to the development of type 2 diabetes.Weight loss improves insulin resistance and reduces hypertension. People who are overweight or obese should therefore be encouraged to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

Physical activity is one of the main pillars in the prevention of diabetes. Increased physical activity is important in maintaining weight loss and is linked to reduced blood pressure, reduced resting heart rate, increased insulin sensitivity, improved body composition and psychological well-being.

A balanced and nutritious diet is essential for health. A healthy diet reduces risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.

WHAT DOES WHITE SALT REALLY DO TO THE BODY?

Salt is an antibiotic; it kills life! It is used as a preservative because it kills the bacteria(life) in the food to prevent the natural decomposing of that food. In the body, it is just as much a destroyer and killer of cells and life itself!

When salt in the form of sodium chloride enters the body, it draws water from the bloodstream, causing the body to send out an SOS signal that manifests itself in thirst. Why because the water helps dilute the salt concentration in order to help neutralize it's poisoning of the body.

Some physical problems caused by salt are hardening of the arteries, arthritis, ulcers, distorted vision and even blindness. It also causes high blood pressure and a multitude of other degenerative diseases.

Does the body have need for Sodium? Yes, but only in trace amounts and that sodium must be in an organic form for the body to be able to utilize it. Organic sodium occurs naturally in most all fruits and vegetables. The recommended maximum daily salt limit is 2400mg. One teaspoon of salt contains approximately 2300mg.

A low sodium diet will reduce the risk of hypertension and it's complications, liver problems and stomach ulcer

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE: Silent Killer

Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood against the walls of the arteries. Blood pressure results from two forces. The heart creates one force as it pumps blood into the arteries and through the circulatory system. The other is the force of the arteries as they resist the blood flow. The higher, systolic number represents the pressure while the heart contracts to pump blood to the body. The lower, diastolic number represents the pressure when the heart relaxes between beats.

The systolic pressure is always stated first and the diastolic pressure second. For example: 118/76 (118 over 76); systolic = 118, diastolic = 76. According to the American Heart Association, blood pressure below 120 over 80 mmHg (millimeters of mercury) is considered ideal for adults. A systolic pressure of 120 to 139 mmHg or a diastolic pressure of 80 to 89 mmHg is considered "pre–hypertension" and needs to be watched carefully.

A blood pressure reading of 140 over 90 or higher is considered elevated or high. High blood pressure usually has no symptoms. In fact, many people have high blood pressure for years without knowing it. That's why it's called the "silent killer." Hypertension is the medical term for high blood pressure. It doesn't refer to being tense, nervous or hyperactive. You can be a calm, relaxed person and still have high blood pressure.

The only way to find out if you have high blood pressure is to have your blood pressure checked. Your doctor or other qualified health professional should check your blood pressure as often as necessary. A single elevated blood pressure reading doesn't mean you have high blood pressure, but it's a sign that further observation is required.

CAUSES

High blood pressure is not the consequence of aging. It is the result of the Standard American Diet (SAD) utilized by Nigerians. A diet rich in processed foods, salt and saturated fat in animal products over many years, takes a toll. As a result, our blood vessels age, stiffen and lose their elasticity.

Dr. Rowen Pfeifer says “Our blood vessels need to remain elastic as our heart is pumping blood through them as they contract and expand. High fat foods create plaque on the inside of our arteries causing them to become like hard pipes. At that point the heart has to pump so much harder to get blood through this narrow pipe (which no longer expands) that it creates high blood pressure-Hypertension!

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

You can lower your blood pressure and prevent high blood by eating foods rich in potassium such as bananas, beans, spinach and potatoes. “Potassium can help blunt the effects of sodium (salt) on blood pressure. Take a lot of carrot or carrot juice.

Regular daily exercise will help you.

ASPARTAME: IS DIET COKE AND ZERO COKE REALLY SAFE?

Coca-Cola has conceded that it is “under a bit of pressure” from US consumers over its use of artificial sweetener, aspartame, in  Diet Coke, Coke Zero and other low- and no-calorie products.
SOURCE
Mark Astley, Beverage daily.com

Aspartame is made up of three chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. The book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, by James and Phyllis Balch lists aspartame under the category of "chemical poison."

Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, and Equal-Measure. Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA in the United States. Many of these reactions are very serious, including seizures and death. A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame includes:

Headaches/
migraines
Dizziness
Seizures
Nausea
Numbness
Muscle spasms
